wow it's so peaceful

Every now and then I get the urge to limit my internet usage, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing for the past few… days? I’d like to say weeks but it hasn’t been that long honestly :D

My current method is to have my internet turned off from my phone on default, if I want internet access I have to manually turn mobile data on. I also have my sound on so people can call if they really need to reach me. And if I accidentally leave the mobile data on, my phone will make sounds about all the useless notifications which really annoys me making me want to turn the mobile data off.

After a week and some days of this, I can say that wow. It’s so peaceful. Suddenly you feel like you have more time. No need to rush anywhere. Not filling your brain with useless information. It’s just you, the present moment and whatever you make of it. And generally, the more you’re able to live in the moment the more joyous it is (unless you’re going through hell, but in that case you should keep going instead of distracting yourself).

I’ve had seasons in my life when I felt like I was really crushing it, feeling good, enjoying life, living healthily, waking up at 6 am, exercising every day, spending time the way I wanted to. I know that building habits you enjoy and makes you proud of yourself and makes life sooooo much more pleasant. At first it's difficult. But you stick with it, and eventually you start enjoying it and feel so much better. You feel like you’re on top of the world because you’re consistently doing exactly what you want to do. You can be proud of yourself.

But one thing I’ve realized that it doesn’t actually take that long to change how you feel. You don’t have to do your habits for half a year before feeling strong. You don’t have to limit social media for a year before you see the benefits. The benefits usually come quite shortly; for me it’s about 2 weeks. If I make some changes to my life and live the way I wanna live for 2 weeks, I already feel like a whole different person.

I’ve reduced my phone usage for only 1 and a half weeks and I already feel much better.

My point is, how you spend your time reflects on your wellbeing really quickly.
